DH Cones, DH Squares, and Golden Sound Pads
DH cones should be arranged in a triangular position underneath your speaker or stereo equipment. Place two cones under the heavier end of the equipment, pointed side down and one cone on the lighter end, pointed side up. All three cones should be firmly and evenly balanced. DH Squares and Golden Sound Pads should be placed under the cones.
The best way to place DH Cones
by Richard Seah The Soul of Music
For lightweight equipment- CD players, DACs, pre-amps and tuners:
- Find the line of balance between the front and back of the equipment.
- Place two DH Cones just slightly behind this line, so that the piece of equipment rests lightly on the front. The cones should be pointed downwards.
- Place the third cone, pointing upwards, at the front of the equipment to hold it up. Adjust the position of this cone, by moving it slowly from left to right, until you get the best sound. The "best position" may not be in the middle, but be be in one corner.
For heavy equipment- power amps, heavy CD players, etc.
- Find the centre of gravity of the equipment. Using a right angled bar, balance the equipment front to back and draw the line of balance. Balance the equipment left to right and again draw the line of balance. Where these two lines cross is the centre of gravity. The centre of gravity may not be in the centre of the equipment. It depends on how the inside components are placed.
- From the centre of gravity, draw as big a circle as possible.
- Construct an equilateral triangle on this circle. Place one cone, pointing downwards, on each point of this triangle. Use double-sided tape to keep the cones firmly in place.
For floor-standing loudspeakers:
- Find the centre of gravity of the loudspeaker, using a right angled bar, as described above.
- Get a piece of granite slab at least several inches bigger on all sides of the base of the loudspeaker. Eg, the speaker base is 10"*16", get a granite measuring 16"*22" or bigger.
- Place three cones, pointing downwards, around the centre of gravity of the granite (which is same as the centre of the granite), using the method described above.
- Place the loudspeaker on the granite, positioning the centre of gravity of the loudspeaker above the centre of gravity of the granite.
